We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Playworker to join our team.

As a Senior Playworker, you will play a crucial role in the development and establishment of new After-School Childcare Club(s) while ensuring the highest standards of care and support for children and young people.

Hours: 37.5 hours  
Pay: £24,000 
Contract: 12 Months extension possible (dependent on finance)

Job Purpose:
·         Development and establishment of a new After-School Childcare Club(s)

·         Support new and existing clubs and help them develop quality standards, including support and encouragement to register with Care Inspectorate Wales (AGC).

·         To develop and maintain an enriched, effective, flexible and stimulating play environment.

·         To oversee planning for children and young peoples play 

·         To oversee effective risk benefit management systems 

·         To ensure compliance with the daycare regulations, with regard to the National Minimum Standards for Regulated Child Care.


Main Duties:


Children
·           Ensure an enriched, effective, flexible and stimulating play environment in which children are able to play freely is provided.

·           Co-ordinate and ensure collection of children from school/s 

·           Oversee Planning and preparation of play including activities, preparation of environment and resources, which meet their individual play needs.

·           Build effective and honest relationships with children and young people and their parents/carers.

·           Ensure risk assessments are carried out, where appropriate including undertaking risk:benefit assessments on children and young peoples play and supporting staff in this process. 

·           Making links with the wider community in order to provide a range of opportunities for children and young people and to support the understanding of children’s right to play 

·           Follow guidelines and procedures for Safeguarding as recommended by the registering authority.

·           Follow and review Club policies and procedures including safeguarding , health and safety, behaviour, emergency procedures, confidentiality as approved by the registering authority.

·           Ensure staff are following and engaged in policies and procedures and the review of these. 

·           Ensure appropriate supervision of children and young people throughout the sessions 

·           Administer First Aid as appropriate.

·           Ensure collection of children and young people by parent/carers working with policy guidelines 

·           Ensure a range of suitable food and drink options are provided in line with policies and procedures 

·           Any other job relevant duty required by the committee/owner/manager 


 
Staff and Management


·           Manage, co-ordinate and supervise Playworkers, both paid and unpaid, and students.

·           Co-ordinate team meetings.

·           Liaise with the management committee/manager/owner, parents, schools and other agencies as appropriate.

·           Encourage parental involvement and support of all Clubs.

·           Encourage community involvement and support of all Clubs. 

·           Review the quality of service with children and parents/carers and staff and develop practices for continuous improvement (this may include undertaking recognised quality assurance schemes and daily reflective practice).

·           Undertake training to help with personal development in order to carry out own role including; [Playwork, First Aid, Basic Food Safety, Safeguarding and Children’s Rights, staff management, supervision and appraisal training, ALN, SEN, health and safety, fire marshal, 

·           Undertake supervisions and appraisals on staffing team 


 
Administration

·           Carry out day to day administration, record keeping, ordering and purchasing materials and equipment.

·           Maintain appropriate records, registers and reports to ensure legal and regulatory requirements are met.

·           Ensure that records and systems are maintained as determined by the management committee/owner/manager.

·           Be responsible for the day to day financial administration of the Club.

·           Be responsible for the collection and secure handling of fees.

·           Work within agreed budgets as recommended by the management committee/owner/manager.

·           Produce regular progress reports for the management committee owner/manager.

·           Attend internal and external meetings as necessary, to ensure the successful delivery and development of the service.

·           Organise and conduct various fundraising activities as directed by the committee.


 
Legal


·           Ensure that all aspects of service provision meet with the requirements of relevant legislation e.g. The Children & Families (Wales) Measure 2010 and the Child Minding & Day Care Regulations 2010.

·           Undertake the requirements to comply with the National Minimum Standards for Regulated Child Care 2011.

·           Ensure that all activities are operated in accordance with equal opportunities legislation and all policies as agreed by the Registered Person/Responsible Individual and management committee/owner/ manager where relevant.

·           Adhere to your personal responsibilities as an employee under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

·           To attend CPD training in order to meet legal requirements
 

This job description is as currently applies and will be reviewed regularly as part of Development and Performance Review, and may be subject to other variances. You may be required to undertake other tasks that can be reasonably assigned to you from time to time. 

 

Person Specification: Senior Playworker

 

Essential

·         Have a relevant qualification as defined by the registering authority (SSD) 

·         Level 3 Playwork qualification or Childcare Level 3 qualification and happy to work towards a Playwork qualification.

·         Hold a valid, enhanced DBS check 

·         Experience of working with Primary school aged children (4-11 old).

·         Experience of supervising staff or volunteers.

·         Knowledge of legislation relevant to the provision of Childcare for school age children.

·         Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and stakeholders both in writing and verbally in Welsh and English

·         Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and organisations using a variety of different methods, verbal, non-verbal, electronic, written, etc..

·         Ability to maintain systems and records for the effective administration and financial management of the provision.

·         Knowledge of the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child

·         An understanding and commitment to equal opportunities.

·         An understanding of play and child development and the ability to meet children’s individual needs and a willingness to undertake and refresh training.

·         Demonstrate a wide range of practical Playwork skills.
 

Desirable

·           Current First Aid Certificate.

·           Current Basic Food Safety Certificate.

·           Ability to speak Welsh.

·           Ability to communicate using a range of different languages, e.g., Urdu, sign language etc.

·           Digital Literacy skills or a willingness to train and develop
